Wes Oleszewski

Author Wes Oleszewski is known for his meticulous research and ability to tell a tale so as to put the reader within the story. In the creation and production of seven books since 1991, the author has written more than a quarter of a million words on the subject of Great Lakes maritime history. His only problem has been that he can research and write the stories faster and in far greater quantity than his publisher can produce the books. Currently, he has more than 100 stories in active research, but considering that there are more than 5,000 shipwrecks and more than 300 lighthouses on the lakes - his work is far from finished.

In the process of writing and researching, Wes has gained the trust of Great Lakes divers and the respect of Great Lakes historians. His honest respect for the subject of history as well as for the people who lived it has always shown in his work, and has been widely recognized in the Great Lakes community. This has allowed the author to access places and people that are ordinarily not within the reach of others. The most reclusive of collectors, and the most secretive of divers all trust Wes and share their secrets with him knowing full well that he can write the tales of the lost mariners and still not reveal secrets to the public.

Wes deals exclusively in the “obscure” stories of the lakeboats and lighthouses, and then focuses upon each as if using a microscope. The author often goes to the places where the events took place and then walks in the footsteps of the people whose stories will later be written. No detail is too small, and no person is too ordinary, all of these people and details gain this author’s respect.

This author often turns his focus toward the telling of the stories of the women of the lakes, the heroic females who so often faced a chilling doom with a bravery that most people cannot fathom. For many decades, those who wrote the stories of the ships of the lakes have over looked the role of these courageous female mariners. Wes knows that such stories represent history often lost, and so he attempts to place these tales at the top of his list.

Readers will find no off-color language, sex or gratuitous violence in this author’s work. His books can be read by everyone and anyone. Wes feels that the pure excitement of the actual events is enough to stimulate any reader, and he is correct.

Through the creation of his historical narrative Wes Oleszewski brings to life the rich past of the freshwater seas and the people who sailed upon them. The readers of his books can then share in an exclusive view of history gone missing.
